My apologies for recent inactivity on this site, but this is not indicative of inactivity overall. I have been very busy on a number of potential projects / programs, some of them more advanced than others. These are not limited to, but include:
- Continued research into interesting topics related to the role Central New Jersey’s Topography assisted the Continental army in winning the war against Britain. I present these findings in local public forums such as libraries, historical community gatherings and seminars periodically.
- In preparation for the semiquincentennial or 250 anniversary celebration of the Declaration of Independence next year, we have taken onboard 4 docents trained by our local County this year and together have started to create a museum in one corner of the Van Veghten house in which they can share these stories with the public.
- We have started to explore the area originally occupied by the Van Vegthen property and its immediate neighbours, with a view to creating either a docent-led bus tour, or the creation of a self-drive tour. I am currently taking a few close friends and associates at the SCHS on a prototype of this tour, with a view to explore how best to formalise it.
- We are exploring how best to engage schools on this topic next year, and are in discussions with various influencers both within our organization and that of local school districts. I have appended a short video outlining the potential resources our organization could explore in the development of these programs.
- Finally, I am researching the origin and development of the Quartermaster Corp. based on the assumption that General Greene was the first Quartermaster General in the early history of our fledgling nation to understand what it takes to support an army in the field. He demonstrated this while quartered at the Van Veghten House during the winter cantonment of 1778/79.
I will hopefully be posting some updates on this site on each of these topics in the near future.
